Dr. Lorie Gumbs-Tyler began her journey into natural wellness over 25 years ago when she made the choice to use nutritional supplements, herbs, and homeopathic remedies for health concerns and switched to natural-based cosmetic products. She had always wanted to be a doctor and was ecstatic to discover the field of naturopathic medicine when she decided to change careers from non-profit work and return to school to follow her passion.
Dr. Gumbs-Tyler earned her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the University of Bridgeport. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity from Stanford University with a concentration in Community Health. Dr. Gumbs-Tyler is also a CranioSacral Therapist with advanced training in SomatoEmotional Release and CranioSacral applications for pregnancy and pediatrics with the Upledger Institute.
Passionate about seeing people embrace an outlook of wellness and embark on their journey towards their best, most radiant selves, Dr. Gumbs-Tyler’s approach is an empowerment-based model, helping people to restore balance within themselves and reach a level of sustained wellness. She understands and celebrates the individual cultural traditions of each patient and honors a sense of community. Her process is holistic, addressing the connection between one’s mental, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing.
In her free time, Dr. Gumbs-Tyler enjoys finding new adventures in Connecticut with her children, dancing, growing vegetables in her community garden plot, spending time outdoors, and experimenting with child-approved healthy recipes. She is on the Greater Bridgeport Healthy Lifestyles Task Force and has participated on the Wellness Policy Committee for the Bridgeport Public Schools Nutrition Center. She is a lifelong learner and an advocate for finding the right balance between work, enjoyment, and relaxation.
